What is Artstarter?

Artstarter is a website that can best be described as an online art gallery for creative, enterprising and enthusiastic artists and designers. On the website, they promote and sell their work to a broad, international audience.

What is the Featured Artist page?

On the Featured Artist page you can find more information about the artists and designers on Artstarter. You can visit their profile page for more information about themselves and their work. Artists can ask us for an interview, so they can create exposure for themselves.

What are the Staff Favorites?

Artstarter picks out weekly three pieces of art they really like to show them on the home page.

How do I join Artstarter?

To promote and sell your work on Artstarter you need to signup for a free account first. If you have not done this already you can do so here. Choose a username and password and fill out the requested information and provide your payment details. You will receive an email with a confirmation link. After clicking the link your free account is activated and you can start uploading work.

What are the costs of joining Artstarter?

A free account is completely free. You can choose to upgrade to a premium account, this costs 30 euro per year (incl. VAT).

What do I get for a free account?

You will get your own artist page and URL (e.g. www.artstarter.nl/yourname) and you can show a maximum of five works online.

What do I get for a premium account?

You will get your own artist page and URL (e.g. www.artstarter.nl/yourname) and you can show an unlimited amount of works online. We will promote your work on social media and our newsletter, you get a temporary spot on the homepage, if you like we can interview you and you get a place in our 'Featured Artist' section and not to forget you'll receive some awesome Artstarter stickers!

What will happen after one year?

Thirty days before your premium account ends we will send you an invoice for the next year. If you don't want to continue your premium account, you don't have to do anything. Your account will automatically be switchd back to a free account. Your last 5 works will still be visible on the website.

How do I add my work to Artstarter?

To add a new artwork go to your Account page and click on ‘Add Item’. A new page appears where you can choose a Product Group, upload a picture and fill out the mandatory fields. Finally add a description of the artwork in English and click Save Changes, it is now added to your Account page and will be visible to our visitors.

How do I know if someone wants to buy one of my works?

If someone places an order for one of your works, you will receive an email confirmation of the purchase containing the customers’ information. The customer has received an email confirming the purchase.

What should I do at the time of a sale?

The moment you receive confirmation of a purchase the customer expects an email from you containing the following information:

• The amount payable (this is the amount that is in our purchase confirmation that we sent you, you cannot charge the customer more than that);
• Payment method and information (bank account no., PayPal, etc.);
• Payment deadline;
• Delivery method (mail or pick up);

Ship the work after you received the payment from the customer.

Should I charge shipping costs and VAT separately?

The price you enter when you post the item is a total price, and should include the VAT applicable to your country. You should indicate the shipping costs for each work individually.

What are the costs if I sell an artwork on Artstarter?

Artstarter does not charge any commission when a work of art is sold.

What happens to my work after it is sold?

When an artwork is sold it will be marked as 'not for sale', but will still be visible to our visitors. You can leave it as is, you can remove the work, or you can set it back for sale again if you have more than one copy. 

I don’t want to purchase a work, but show my appreciation

Artstarter has introduced a ‘like this’ button to show how popular a work is. For artists this is an indication to see if their work will sell. Visitors of Artstarter can support their favorite artists by clicking the heart-button on Artstarter, like-button for Facebook or pin-button to show the work on Pinterest.

I want to purchase a work of art on Artstarter

Can anyone purchase an item on Artstarter?

You need to signup to purchase an item on Artstarter. If you do not have an account yet, you can create one on our Signup page. Choose a username and password, enter your details and confirm. You will receive an email with a link, which should be confirmed. After confirmation you can directly place an order.

How do I place an order on Artstarter?

Go to Art and Design and click on the work of your choice, then click on the Buy Now button and confirm. You will receive an email from us confirming your purchase.

I have received a confirmation of my purchase, what should I do?

Nothing yet, the artist will contact you about payment and shipping method. The artist will only send the item after payment is received. Please note that the amount mentioned in our confirmation email is the total price which the artist will charge you.

Who do I pay once I make a purchase?

You pay directly to the artist, and not to Artstarter. At the time of sale, the artist will contact you with the payment details.

How much are the shipping costs for an order?

The prices on Artstarter are VAT included. The shipping costs are mentioned for each item individually. For some items the shipping costs will be agreed upon after purchase depending on your location.

What should I do if the seller has not contacted me about my purchase?

If you have not heard from the artist after one week, please contact us via email.
